Meet Tim
Welcome to my site! I’m Tim Leon, a full-stack developer with a unique blend of military discipline and technical expertise. My journey from a Force Reconnaissance Marine to a web developer is marked by resilience, creativity, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.
Roots in St. Louis
Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, I found my roots in a city known for its rich history and cultural diversity. My journey began at the University of Missouri – St. Louis, where I earned a degree in Criminal Justice. Balancing academics with bartending at some of the city’s favorite spots, I developed a strong work ethic and a knack for connecting with people from all walks of life. These early experiences taught me the importance of perseverance, adaptability, and effective communication—skills that continue to serve me well in my career today.
Marine Corps Journey
Joining the Marine Corps was a pivotal decision that profoundly impacted my life and career. Serving as a Force Reconnaissance Marine, I embraced roles that demanded precision, courage, and adaptability. As the team JTAC (Joint Terminal Attack Controller) and ARTO (Assistant Radio Telephone Operator), I was entrusted with critical responsibilities that required swift decision-making and strategic planning.
Throughout my service, I attended specialized schools, including the Multi-Mission Parachutist Course (MMPC), dive school, army airborne, SERE school, and JTAC school. These rigorous programs equipped me with advanced skills and a mindset geared toward excellence.
My deployments took me to Norway, where I experienced the harsh Arctic environment (and caught a touch of frostbite), and Tunisia, where I engaged in complex operations. Each deployment presented unique challenges, fostering a deep sense of camaraderie and a relentless drive to succeed.
Adventures and Family
After completing my service, my wife Kayla and I embarked on a journey of adventure and excitement. We enjoyed the beach life on the coast of North Carolina, soaking in the sun and the sea. Eventually, we decided to move back to our roots in St. Louis, where both our families are from. This move allowed us to be closer to family, providing a strong support system as we started the next chapter of our lives.
One of the most incredible experiences we’ve had recently is welcoming our first child. This new addition to our family has brought immense joy and a new perspective on life.
Our dog Rae has been a constant companion, joining us in many of our adventures. My hobbies have kept me busy and fulfilled. I have a passion for hunting, fishing, and photography, capturing the beauty of the outdoors and the thrill of the catch. Sewing and 3D printing allow me to channel my creativity into tangible projects, while DIY projects around the house keep my hands busy and my mind sharp.
Diving into Project Management
Joining goBRANDgo! as a project manager was a transformative experience. At this small but dynamic marketing firm, I managed various projects, ensuring they were delivered on time and met client expectations. My curiosity and enthusiasm for web development grew as I worked closely with the technical team, often delving into the backend details and learning as much as I could.
- Managed our project management software, Workbook.
- Led multiple marketing and web development projects.
- Learned essential skills in client communication, task management, and team collaboration.
Mastering Full-Stack Development
Determined to expand my technical expertise, I enrolled in a full-stack JavaScript development bootcamp at Claim Academy. This intensive program provided me with the skills and confidence to take on complex development projects. Upon graduating, I returned to goBRANDgo! as their sole developer. Initially intimidating, this role allowed me to rapidly grow and contribute significantly to the company’s digital projects.
- Graduated from Claim Academy with a comprehensive understanding of full-stack development.
- Took on the role of sole developer at goBRANDgo!, handling large-scale projects.
- Developed custom landing pages, authentication systems, and more for over 40 client sites.
